and then I got bored and dyed my hair RED

I've had my hair blonde for waaaay too long for my liking and needed to change it up. I've been brown, black, dirty-blonde, light brown... pretty much everything BUT red.
Red honestly freaked me out.

So I told myself to get over it because if it looks horrible I can always dye it brown and no-one would know the wiser right?
I was going to dye it brown this fall anyways so I may as well just do it.

I told my friend/neighbor/hair stylist Bri that I wanted to go red and she got excited.
I picked her up (with my kids in tow) and went to the beauty supply store to pick the color.
Jayde was fascinated with all the, "champoo" haha

That night I went from this:

To this:
...and I absolutely am in LOOOOVE with it!!
So I say, "Bring on the dark red lipstick!"

The big two-six

Tyson spoiled me this year and we celebrated my birthday all weekend. Thursday we made home-made pizzas with his parents which were delicious, and his mom made a to-die-for chocolate cake. Friday we went to the pool with Jayde. She loved the pool this time (first time was a flop because it was too cold and she was freaked out of all that water). She played with her toys and splashed around like a champ. We went out to eat at Benjas while his parents watched Jayde for us. Then Saturday we had friends over for more cake & ice-cream. Sunday which was my actual birthday Tyson grilled steaks which were probably the best steaks I've had, grilled pineapple, and corn.

It was a fun-filled birthday, and I'm lucky I was able to spend it with the people I love.

a baby shower for Rainey Jane

Do you see this gorgeous girl? Well she has been my best friend since the 5th grade and she is having a baby any time now - isn't that exciting?! She is having a little girl who she is naming Rainey Jane. So cute. My friend Tia and I threw her a polka dot baby shower which was so much fun. Everything turned out great and she got lots of adorable things.

the diaper cake I made as part of my gift

Tia made this adorable banner and I made a few pom pom things for the nursery

the favors were cookie cutters which said, "THANKS for making my shower so sweet!"

Stephanie who is also from our home town El Centro, CA

they are both expecting - how fun is that?!

We had a blast planning this shower. Those two girls also threw me one when I was pregnant, and Kristina and I are going to be throwing one for Tia in a couple months. It's so much fun to have home-town friends live so close.

Note to self: THIS is what happens when you play airplane with your baby, above your head after they've just eaten their dinner....

...you get TAGGED...
and not by a bird,

but by a baby.

For me - it was THIS baby.

And instead of being rescued by the husband, he laughs at me and takes pictures on his phone (which he quickly posts on Facebook),

and some with our camera.

All the while I'm helpless laying on the floor with warm upchuck all over myself....

and a baby just smirking at me clean as a whistle.

Dear Pottery Barn,

I currently own your Deirdre Organic Duvet Cover & Shams and let's just say that they look awesome in our master bedroom and perfect with our CA king headboard.

And I am in love with it!

Well the other day, I was cruising your website and crossed upon your Crewel Embroidered Tapered Drum Lamp Shade and I stopped short.

*and possibly let out a little gasp*

These shades are absolutely adorable and would be perfect in our bedroom.

There is just one problem...
it is $49 for one shade (and it's the small). Now I could justify spending the money if that included the lamp base, but not just a shade.

I've looked all over the place to see if I can find something similar, but with no such luck - yours it is just too adorable.

Every day I pull up your website and hope that those shades will be on sale. And every day I am out of luck because they are still full-price.

So I keep trying to think of a way I can make them myself for cheaper - and I have no idea how.

What I'm getting at is - PLEASE ADD THEM TO YOUR SALE SECTION! Let's just say I would REALLY appreciate it! :)

Your loyal customer,

Laura Horrocks

Blast from the past

It's always fun when you get together with old friends! Earlier this month I was able to grab lunch while up in Salt Lake with some old High School friends from El Centro (where I grew up) because they were in town for a wedding. It was run reminiscing, catching up on what each of us are up to, and having people meet Tyson. It had been about 5 years since I'd seen Gabby, Beth, or Andrew which is crazy! Fun times...fun times.

Twilight

Teri and I went with some other girls to see the midnight showing of the Twilight - New Moon movie which I thought was better than the first one that came out. The actors obviously had some lessons since the first movie, and I liked how they kept it close to the book and added some humor. The theater was filled with crazy girls who were hooting and hollering when Jacob and Edward came out which was hilarious. It was fun to get out and see a midnight showing, and getting some girl time in.

September 30, 2009

So what kind of weather do you think of when you think of the last day of September? My whole life I've grown up in a place where you can wear shorts and flip flops all year round. We never had to wear coats when Trick-or-Treating and were able to show off our costumes in their full glory.

Never did I think I would be able to say that it snowed in September. It didn't stick but just the thought of it makes me cringe. What happened to my glorious summer?! It's now gone, and I'm missing it like crazy. I didn't want to make myself admit that it was now Fall, but I guess you just can't go against nature or it will bite you in the butt when you're not looking and will make itself snow in September just to laugh at your reaction. Oh well...there's always next year.

{Picture of these dreadfully HUGE snowflakes taken of the backyard on: September 30th, 2009. I must say, that's just not right in my book.}

Yard - Work

...was cleaning out the window wells the other day, (well a few months ago I'm still playing catch-up), and Tyson took a snapshot of me doing it. He proclaimed, "You're ACTUALLY doing yard-work!" I guess maybe it's time for me to learn how to mow the lawn...or something to that effect...maybe.

Horrocks' Family Reunion

In July I attended the Horrocks' Family Reunion while Tyson was studying for the bar. We went to Lava Hot Springs which was an interesting place. The hotel we stayed in was pretty old. If you didn't get the 'Master Suite' you had to share a community bathroom with the other three rooms on your side of the hall. If you were blessed with obtaining a coveted Master Suite you literally had a bed, the toilet, and bathtub in one room...no walls....very strange. You would hear the train roll by every few hours at night from what others were saying. Let's just say it's a good thing I'm a deep sleeper!
Despite all that it was fun going golfing with the family, roasting hot dogs by the fire, and cooking those wonderful s'mores. Kevin even hit a powder golf ball brought by Sally which turned out to be an awesome picture (that I wish I had a copy of).
We got to see some awesome swimsuits worn by the...locals? It was fun tubing down the crazy river. The people on the 4-person crafts were even able to return the treacherous ride without any battle wounds. Let's just say the other people can't say the same thing.
The Natural Hot Springs were also very relaxing to soak in with all of their different temperature options. It was pretty cool. If you're looking for a very relaxing, and interesting trip definitely go to the Hot Springs. You'll probably never forget the experience.

Kenny Chesney Concert

Tyson's parents took Kristina and I to the Kenny Chesney concert which was pretty good. We saw some great acts including Kenny himself obviously, Lady Antebellum, and Miranda Lambert who was totally spunky! Sugarland was going to preform as well, but was having issues with vocals which was a bummer. None-the-less we had a blast eating hot dogs, talking & screaming up a storm, and listening to awesome music. Thanks again!

June Happened...

...and I never blogged about it, so here goes!
{Tyson assembles his GW School of Law plates}

{Laura goes to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang play with Teri (Ty's mom)}

{Laura's first sighting of fawns in person!}

{...what's new right?}

{Trying to find things to do with my spare (husband-less) time. Teri and I make strawberry freezer jam. My first attempt...ever.}

{Finally bought my own car! 2007 Pontiac Torrent...love it!}

{Do you like? I haven't had it short since I was 8 and my mom did a bowl cut to me. Told her right after if I EVER to ask her to cut it short again to NOT do it! Famous words of an eight year old I guess. Went out on a whim and had my BFF cut it...and I love it! Now I can officially have my hair short and look okay with it if I ever get bored again.}

{Cousin's baby blessing. She married Tyson's good friend from High School. Total coincidence}

{5K with Kristina (the BFF). We did awesome. Training for a half marathon in September. I love that girl!}

{Our support 'group'. Won the hat after the race and it looked better on Jake so I gave it to him... after-all he did wake up super early and drive us over there! Thanks Jake! I'm so glad you and Kristina met online. hee hee.}
