Mr. 7 Months

Dear Colton,

At 7 months you JUST learned how to roll over from your tummy to your back. You’d been doing the other way for a couple months now, but now you realize you can do it and I find you all over the floor. It’s so cute seeing you roll over head first to the side and then grin up at me. You don’t mind tummy time anymore now that you know how to get out of it. Lately you’ve been rolling all over the floor, and I never know where I’ll find you a couple minutes after laying you down.

Lately you haven’t wanted to take a bottle. I don’t know if it’s from having croup and your throat hurts, or me nursing you the whole time we were in CA for Christmas, but I’m not too worried since you eat regular food really well. You do however get very distracted while nursing and will unlatch, arch your back, and look around at everything. I have to go into our bedroom to nurse so you don’t have your sister distracting you. While you nurse you like to grab my hair by the handful and put it on your face which makes you laugh and laugh. You also like to dig your hand into my armpit which is cute for about 2 seconds and then starts to be painful.

You are such a great sleeper and usually go to sleep at 8-8:30 and wake up at 3 to eat for about 10 min, then wake back up around 8am. I try to get you to stay awake for 2 hour increments before you take your naps, but about 1 ½ hours is pushing it for you staying awake. Your naps are usually from around 1-2 hours. You are so silly because you LOVE to grab your blanket and put it on your face, then take it off and laugh and laugh. You’ll do that forever it seems until you fall asleep. Sometimes you let go and don’t know how to get it back off your face and will start flailing around and acting like you can’t breathe until I take it off for you. You then immediately start laughing, and quickly put it back on your face again. It is hilarious!

You’ve been able to sit up for awhile now and LOVE the new found freedom with playing with your toys. You were always unhappy when we would lay you on your back, and you’re like a whole new baby now that you can sit up and see the world that way! We sit you in the little counter chair and you will hit the counter over and over because it makes loud noises – you’re such a boy!

You are such a happy baby, and your smile melts my heart. I love it when I look at you from across the room and see you grinning ear to ear at me. It makes me wonder how long you’ve been watching me before I noticed. I love cuddling you and holding your chubby little body so close because I know that you will grow up to be a super active little boy oh too soon. I can’t get enough of kissing your chubby cheeks, and feeling your fuzzy hair. You have blessed our family so much and have brought us so much joy.

Love,
Mamma

Mr. 6 Months

Dear Colton,

You are starting to get the hang of sitting up. A few more weeks and I think you’ll have it down! Lately you have been eating baby food and multi-grain (kind of like rice cereal) 2-3 times a day like a champ. It took you about 6 weeks to really get the hang of it, and now it is much easier to feed you. You like everything we’ve given you except the green beans. Foods you like are squash, carrots, applesauce, peas, bananas, and sweet potato.

You don’t mind being in your car seat which is surprising since your sister HATED it and that is all we were used to. You’ll just sit there and watch yourself in the little mirror waiting for us to get wherever we’re going and me take you out.

You have the cutest little boy screeches when you are playing with us, and have been sticking your tongue out a lot lately. Hopefully that doesn’t mean you’re already teething! Your favorite toy is a fruit snacks bag. Man you will play with that thing for hours without making a sound. You love the noise it makes, and how it feels when you try to chew on it.

You don’t really talk much because you just observe everything as it happens, but that’s ok. Oh, and you put EVERYTHING you get your hands on into your mouth so when I try to read to you we don’t get very far because all you are interested in is trying to stick the WHOLE BOOK into your mouth.

I can’t believe you are already 6 months old. The time has flown by, and we can’t imagine you not in our family. You are such a fun little boy and we love your little laughs. You are also very serious at times when you see things going on around you, and I love seeing your ‘serious face’ and trying to get you to laugh during it. We love watching you hit your milestones, and it is so fun seeing you and your sister interact. Jayde makes you laugh all the time, and I am excited to see your guys’ relationship form throughout the years.

Love,
Mom

November Adventures

This November we had a ton of fun after moving into Tyson's parents house. Fall came and Jayde loved jumping in the leaf piles her Papa made. She made a new friend Stella who is her nanny's daughter, and her and Colt adjusted very well with going over there a few hours every day.

We got our first huge snow storm, and watched "Bambi and Bambi's Mamma" walk around the backyard and eat the apples we left out for them. I helped Jayde make her first snowman, and we played follow the leader in snow tracks because the snow was so deep. Jayde even face planted off the swings into about 2 feet of snow and I scooped her up while she was laughing away. I loved how much she loved the snow, because it was technically her first time really remembering playing in it.

Jayde learned what Hot Chocolate was, and absolutely loved the stuff! Below are some fun pics of Colt while we were waiting for Tyson to pick up some Pie Pizza. I just can't get enough of those kissable huge cheeks! Jayde wanted in on some of the action and took some funny pictures of herself on my phone.

We did some fun baking, and the power went out one night which Jayde loved. She played around with the flash lights and lanterns while she ate dinner. Tyson was very excited that football season started so we wouldn't have to drive up so far to go to the games.

Mr. 5 Months

Dear Colt,

At 5 months old you love to grab onto anything within reach and will put it in your mouth. You rolled from your back to your tummy about a week before you turned 5 months, and have only done it one other time. Unlike your sister you don’t mind being in your car seat. You will just sit there and look at yourself in the mirror completely content.

It’s funny because you are either a super happy smiley baby, or screaming at me and you switch between the two very quickly! We are still working with having you be happy while just laying on your back and you are so much more content with it than you used to be. In the morning you will lay there for an hour or so rocking back and forth until you get hungry or tired and then you start yelling at me to pick you up. By your bed-time you pretty much just want to be held by someone as we go about our day and if we lay you down you will wail at us. Sometimes your scream sounds like a little piglet which is pretty funny (unless we’re in the middle of being screamed at… then it’s not so funny).

You have been a great sleeper since you were born. After nursing or taking a bottle at night we burp you give you your binkey, lovee, and swaddle and hold you for about 2 minutes and lay you down awake you will do a great job of falling asleep by yourself. We haven’t needed to have you cry it out and I think that was partially because I never nursed you to sleep because I didn’t want you to be dependent on that. Instead of having you cry it out to fall asleep you may need to cry it out in regards to having someone else (but mom) feed you and lay you down. You definitely have a preference to have me do it and will scream and arch your back if someone else tries. Lately you will stay awake for about 2 hours before taking a 1 hour nap.

You are very observant and love being held face forward so you can stare at the world going on around you. One of your favorite things is watching Jayde play. I’m excited when you two can play with toys together. You also enjoy grabbing onto things and have started to grab whatever I’m holding in front of me, as well as my face and hair.

This month you love to splash and kick while in your bath so I pretty much end up just as wet as you are. You love your baths still (like always), and having your diaper changed. Lately you decided you do not love being dressed in the morning. You also LOVE your bouncer! We got it out the other day and you are fascinated by all the things to play with. It’s so cute seeing you bounce away.

Halloween 2012

This last Halloween was a blast. Jessi, Ryan, and Hayley were able to come up and spend some time with the family. It was fun doing all of the ward parties, and dressing up the kids to match. Jayde got to ride her first Ferris Wheel at Scheels, pick out her and her brother's own pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, and learn how to carve them out.

We also went to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point which was very fun. Jayde loved climbing all over the wooden playsets, playing in the corn maze, trying out all the good food and playing on the bounce houses.

Colt was a devil and Jayde was an angel for Halloween. They did great in their costumes! Jayde loved walking door to door and learning that when she said "Trick or Treat" she would get candy. She was in heaven!

Randomness from last October

Playing with our St. George friends (Tayli, Ava, and Lux).

Jayde sleeping in her closet instead of her bed. I don't even know why we have an adorable bed for this little girl when she prefers sleeping on the ground.

Rice cereal for the first time. Not much went down, but he seemed to enjoy it!

Just riding bikes in front of our house.

 Colt helping me work.

Jayde got her first 'haircut' with bangs. She wasn't sure about the whole process, but Bri did an awesome job and I love it!

The deer visit us after the first snowstorm of the season and Jayde wanted to go out half dressed for the day to play in it.

Mr. 4 Months

You love grabbing onto your legs and rocking from side to side. Lately you have been learning that you have a voice and will grunt and growl at us very loudly it’s so funny. I feed you and lay you down around 8:30pm and you have been waking up at around 3am at night to eat then will wake up again around 7am to eat, but will sleep for another hour before waking up for the day.

You are such a great sleeper during the day. Generally you will be awake for about an hour and a half before getting tired so I just lay you in your swing with your binkey and lovee and you are out for about an hour or so.

At 4 ½ months we started giving you rice cereal. It took you a couple weeks to really get used to swallowing it, and for the most part you eat it very well now. It will mostly replace a feeding which is nice because it fills you up so much.

One of your favorite things is to stand. You would stand all day if I was up for it. Those chubby little legs are now very strong and I’m sure when you are mobile you’ll start grabbing and standing up on things pretty quick.

It's funny because when people see you they say, "Oh what a happy baby" in which respond that you are either super happy and loving life, or completely pissed off at the world - and it switches SUPER fast. We are getting used to it though, and realize that you are always happy while being held but the minute we lay you down you are not a happy camper. Part of me thinks it's because of when you got sick and went to the hospital when you were younger, but I'm not sure.

Even though sometimes you are grumpy, we love you so much and can't get enough of your adorable smile and contagious laugh. We are so lucky to have you in our family. Love you Bubba!

Gooooood Morning!!!

I love waking up to this adorable squishy face!
